Boost Your Brain Power With These Foods

brainpowerimageAs people live longer, we will most likely know someone, a family member or friend, who develops some form of dementia. What is sad is that they could have done some simple lifestyle changes that would have either delayed or prevented their memory loss.

Below are a few food tips to help you boost your brain power.

  • Salmon and Tuna. They are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. An added bonus, Salmon and Tuna are high in protein and low in calories. This makes fish an excellent choice for anyone trying to gain muscle, lose weight or increase brain function.
  • Walnuts. Like fish are loaded with omega-3 for a healthy brain. They also are a great nighttime snack as they increase levels of melatonin significantly which can help with insomnia and sleeplessness.
  • Extra-Virgin olive oil. Research has shown that diets rich in extra-virgin olive oil may help to sharpen mental faculties for seniors. The quantity of olive oil consumed was  inversely proportional to age-related cognitive decline and memory loss.
  • Foods rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin E. You can boost you brain power by eating plenty of antioxidant-rich foods with these vitamins, such as leafy greens, nuts, vegetable oils, citrus fruits, tomatoes, strawberries and broccoli. Make sure that your fruits and vegetables are organic.

It’s time to be proactive about your health. Don’t wait until something happens. Develop healthy habits now!
